Ubol-Ubol of the South

Ubol-ubol of the South

Experience Malapatan with their festivities. Truly, one’s travel in this part of the country is incomplete without tales of Malapatan’s events.

Grand celebrations in this municipality are made colorful and vibrant by hanging ubol-ubols. They are usually made of bright tri-colored cylindrical hanging piece of cloth, with
gold sequence bordering each color, very distinct of the rich Maguindanaon culture of making special occasions truly festive. Experiencing Malapatan is seeing these decorations in event venues.

Resembling the tentacles of an octopus, the bottom part of the ubol-ubol is accented with usually five tails, as shown in the picture below, in differing colors and designs. Said “tails” usually have three (3) pointed edges.  Furthermore, each endtail have some sort of triangular pabitins, equally bright and varied in colors.

Colorful Ubol-ubol
The hallways of the LGU Malapatan during the Pakaradyan Festival 2013 were filled with ubol-ubols , more prominent in the wing of the General Services Office, which bagged the Most Festive Office Award. Almost all the interiors of the Department Offices of the Municipal Hall were decorated with ubol-ubols, as they celebrated their 8th Pakaradyan Festival held last June 16-21, 2013. Please mark your calendars, experience Malapatan, and bring home some ubol-ubol to add more color to your homes.
